CV | Ionela Băluță is professor at the Faculty of Political Science, University of Bucharest and director of the Centre for Equal Opportunities Policies. She is a Romanian sociologist specialized in gender studies, with a PhD at Ecoles des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS Paris, 2005). In 2017 she obtained her “Habilitation” in political science, with a thesis on the cognitive potential of gender in political science. In 2011 she initiated the first and only Romanian professional master programme in the field (Politics of Equal Opportunities in Romanian and European contexts, in Romanian and French, University of Bucharest), for which she acts as institutional and scientific coordinator. She was dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences (2016-2019) and head of the Department of Political Science, International Relations and Security Studies of the same faculty (2011-2015). She has coordinated and participated in many national and international projects on the topic of equal opportunities and gender equality and was also country expert within the project “Implementation of a programme of exchanges of good practices on gender equality” (JUST/2014/RGEN/PR/EQUA/0041). Furthermore, she has published books and over forty studies and articles on the topic, in English, French and Romanian, within different collective volumes and high impact international journals.

Research interests: gender studies, anti-gender campaigns, equal opportunities policies, women’s political representation, feminism/history of feminism, gender and nation in XIXth Romanian century, hygienism and biopolitics.
